WHAT IS IIH?

Idiopathic Intracranial Hypertension (IIH)

When the pressure inside the skull is too high Interventional Radiology Management with Venous Sinus Stenting

Idiopathic Intracranial Hypertension (IIH) is a condition of elevated pressure around the brain without an obvious cause. It can lead to persistent headaches, visual disturbances, and in some cases, permanent vision loss. Venous sinus stenting is a safe and effective minimally invasive treatment option for selected patients.

How is it Diagnosed?

Who May Benefit from Venous Sinus Stenting?

ACCESS

A catheter is inserted through a vein in the groin or neck (jugular).

DIAGNOSTIC VENOGRAPHY

Venous angiography is performed to visualize the stenosis and measure the pressure gradient.

PRESSURE MEASUREMENT

Pressure is measured before and after the stenosis to confirm a significant gradient (usually > 8 mmHg).

STENT PLACEMENT

A self-expanding stent is placed across the narrowed segment to open the sinus.

IMMEDIATE RESULT

Venous outflow improves and the pressure gradient is significantly reduced.

RESTORED FLOW

Normal venous drainage is re-established, reducing pressure and relieving symptoms.
